Basement Zoo - Part 1 of 2

Animals for Awareness is a unique non-profit organization that I was very lucky to have worked with about 3 years ago. I became aware of the organization when I met Matt Olsen a biologist/herpotologist who works at the Chicago Reptile House, in Orland Park. He mentioned to me that he volunteered at a very interestingly located, exotic animal rescue shelter: AFA, Animals for Awareness run by Kim Schilling of Palos Park, Il. The shelter is located in the basement and backyard of her residential home in Palos Park. The shelter is a legal non-profit organization. They have all the permits and licenses necessary to operate from the home that they do, and what an interesting home indeed.

part 1 of 2 to come
with contact information in case you're interested in volunteering or donating

Animals for Awareness has a strict no kill policy. When illegal animals or animals that are inappropriate to keep in a home are abandoned or discovered by local authorities AFA offers a home.
